cut-up history
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A closer view upon the recent cultural
and curatorial strategies in Central and Eastern Europe will evoke
the presence of a vivid interest coming from the local cultural
communities and civil society to investigate the cultural phenomena
appeared before 1989. The examination of the references invoked
by artists in their projects, the detournement of official messages,
the articulation of an alternative visual language and of a regional
artistic specificity constitute the central points on the map
of «Cut-up history. Paradigmatic topographies in Romanian
art during 60s and 70s» project. The research proposes not
just to rewrite the art history during those years, but to follow
as well the consequences had by a certain type of artistic practice
upon a new generation of artists today.
Dedicated to the typology and expanded
interpretation of the term «conceptualism», the research
proposes to introduce the viewer in the unique horizon of the
art of late 60s and 70s in Romania. The works of the artists belonging
to the new avant-garde will be researched in the context of the
regional and international artistic manifestations, the juxtaposition
of references outlining new interpretations. «Cut-up history.
Paradigmatic topographies in Romanian art during 60s and 70s»
is a rediscovered history which hits as well aspects of local
modernism.
The project is supported by Erste Foundation, PATTERNS program.
